Ethics and Filing a Complaint

All Counselling Therapists in Nova Scotia are required to follow the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapist Association’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. You can find both of these documents on CCPA’s website: https://www.ccpa-accp.ca/2020-code-of-ethics/

In addition, all Counselling Therapists in Nova Scotia are regulated by the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT). NSCCT is mandated by legislation “to ensure the public has access to a robust and objective Complaint and Professional Conduct process to investigate complaints against counselling therapists and impose discipline where appropriate.”

If you would like more more information about filing a complaint or would like to file a complaint about a Registered Counselling Therapist or a Registered Counselling Therapist-Candidate, you can go to the NSCCT website https://nscct.ca/filing-complaint/

The complaint process is also outlined here

If you are uncertain about filing a complaint or need assistance in completing the Complaint Form, you can a contact the NSCCT Registrar by calling 902-225-7531 or emailing registrar@nscct.ca.

NSCCT also has a dedicated, confidential Sexual Misconduct Reporting Line to assist in reporting sexual misconduct by a Registered Counselling Therapist. Please call 902-579-8119 and leave a message — a trained Sexual Assault Complaint Navigator will contact you within 48 hours.
